How this works. Microphone mode uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (the Web Speech API) to count recognized words and score clarity. In Chrome and Edge, that means your audio is sent to the browser vendor's speech service for transcription — the same thing that happens when you use voice search — this page itself never uploads, transmits, or stores your audio anywhere. Scores and history stay in this browser's local storage only. If speech recognition isn't available, Manual mode (tap Space at each line break) always works, no microphone required.
